Während des Krieges 1967 reduzierte sich die Bevölkerung auf dem Golan von 140000 Syrern zu ungefähr 7000. Der Rest der Bevölkerung floh vor der israelischen Armee in syrisches Gebiet. Wohnhaft im Golan sind heute circa 20000 Drusen, die israelische Identitätskarten innehaben, aber keine Pässe und somit keine gleichwertigen Bürger sind. Of the fomer 138 Syrian villages, only five are left today. During the war in 1967, the population of 140,000 Syrians on the Golan was reduced to about 7,000. The rest fled from the Israeli army into Syrian territories. Today approximately 20,000 Druze live on the Golan. They have Israeli ID cards, but no passports and are not equal citizens. Their status is similar to that of Palestinians from East Jerusalem.

In Majdal Shams, einem drusischen Dorf direkt am Jabal Sheikh / Mount Hermon. Minenfelder reichen ganz nah an die Häuser heran. Die israelische Armee räumt gelegentlich abrutschende Erdhänge, lässt den Grossteil der Minen aber weiter unberührt. -- In Majdal Shams, a Druze village at the foot of Jabal Sheikh / Mount Hermon.
